Mang-Hyang Cemetery

For Overseas Koreans,
Commemorating Our Nation’s Sorrows
National Mang-Hyang Cemetery

The National Mang-Hyang Cemetery was established as a sacred resting place for the souls of overseas Koreans, including Koreans in Japan, who were forced to leave their beloved homeland due to Japan’s imperialist aggression. Many endured unimaginable hardships and sorrow in exile, longing for their homeland until their final days.

Today, the cemetery is the final resting place for overseas Koreans from various countries, including Japan, China, Indonesia, Russia, Uzbekistan, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, and France.

In addition to overseas Koreans, the cemetery also serves as a sanctuary for victims of the Japanese military’s “comfort women” system, Sakhalin Koreans who returned to Korea, and others who were forcibly mobilized during Japanese colonial rule.

This is a place where the deep bond of Koreans for their compatriots endures—a solemn reminder of the pain of lost sovereignty and the lessons of history for generations to come.
